    Welcome to Park Avenue Medical Aesthetics. Patients who undergo cosmetic surgery or non-surgical skin care programs can look forward to gaining self-confidence and a sense of well-being from looking, feeling and functioning at their best.     Jerry K. Popham, M.D., F.A.C.S.

    Dr. Jerry K. PophamDr. Popham began the private practice of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in Denver after completing his fellowship training at Harvard Medical School in Boston. Prior to his advanced training in oculoplastic surgery at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Popham completed residency training in the microsurgical techniques of ophthalmic and intraocular surgery at Texas A&M University Medical School. Dr. Popham is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also a member of the American Society of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and has served for over a decade as the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at the largest hospital in Colorado. He teaches ophthalmic plastic surgery to physicians in training and has academic appointments as assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology and clinical instructor in otolaryngology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. Dr. Popham has written numerous scientific articles published in medical journals and has written several book chapters related to oculoplastic surgery. He recently co-authored the primary book used as a reference by physicians in training worldwide, Ophthalmic Plastic, Orbital, and Lacrimal Surgery, published by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to cosmetic and reconstructive oculoplastic surgery.

    Based on the votes of his colleagues, Dr. Popham has been recognized as Colorado's best plastic surgery - blepharoplasty surgeon in Denver's 5280 Magazine on five separate occasions. He has also been named in 5280 Magazine as one of the top doctors in Denver in the use of cosmetic Botox. He is a member of the National Educational Faculty for Botox Cosmetic. He is a national training physician for Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceutical's product, Sculptra. He has been recognized as one of the Best Doctors in America in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, and 2007. Dr. Popham is the recipient of the Achievement Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the Outstanding Young Ophthalmologist Award of the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

    Dr. Popham has pioneered a variety of minimally invasive, small incision or no incision surgical techniques related to eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital surgery, including endoscopic midface lifting, endoscopic balloon-assisted tear drain surgery, and laser blepharoplasty. His primary medical interests are related to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the facial structures around the eyes, particularly those that minimize visible scarring and recovery time for his patients.

    Dr. Popham is also committed to serving the medical needs of the poor. As a Director of the non-profit organization, About Face Foundation, he leads a team of physicians and nurses annually to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam where American surgeons collaborate with Vietnamese surgeons to perform facial reconstructive surgeries for indigent Vietnamese children.


    Dr. Robert C. Kersten Robert C. Kersten, M.D., F.A.C.S.

    Robert C. Kersten, M.D. is a graduate of Notre Dame and received his medical training at University of Iowa College of Medicine. After completing his Residency Training in Ophthalmology, he was awarded a Heed Fellowship Grant in the specialty of Ophthalmic Plastic surgery. Upon completion of this Fellowship, Dr. Kersten served as the Chief Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeon at the largest eye hospital in the free world, the King Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is currently a Professor of Ophthalmology at University of Cincinnati Medical School.

    Dr. Kersten has authored over 100 publications on eye surgery, and has lectured widely within the United States and abroad. He has been recognized in Best Doctors in America, based on a large national survey of physicians, and also by Cincinnati Magazine as one of the city’s Top Doctors. He has received the prestigious Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, is an associate examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is on the Editorial Boards of several national Ophthalmology journals. He has been elected to membership in the elite International Orbit Society and three-time recipient of the “Teacher-of-the-Year” award at University of Cincinnati Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kersten is the editor of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s textbook on Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery, the largest selling oculo-plastic textbook in the world. He is Board Certified in Ophthalmology, a Diplomate of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.


    OUR AESTHETICIAN

    Shawn Lynn Haviland is one of Park Avenue Medical Aesthetics newest additions, joining the practice in May of 2007. Shawn graduated with honors from Florida College of Natural Health with an Associate Degree in Science with emphasis in Paramedical Skincare. She worked in Miami, Florida for 3 years as a skin care educator and trainer for the Clarisonic Skincare Brush and other high end skin care lines.

    Shawn also works with Dr. James Fulton (co-developer of Retin-A) doing product development for his skin care line Vivant Pharmaceuticals and case studies for clients with severe skin conditions.


    Initial Consultation

    Cosmetic surgery is a big step and we attach a great deal of importance to your initial consultation. Dr. Popham will address your individual needs and offer solutions that will yield the best possible results. He wants each patient to make well-informed choices and will answer any questions you have including treatment alternatives, expected outcomes, benefits and risks. You will have the opportunity to view a collection of before-and-after photographs of former patients and use our video imaging system to see an approximation of your results.

    Specialized Services

    As a convenience to our patients, we offer digital photography and computer imaging, as well as a variety of skin care therapies. In addition, appointments can be made with our licensed aesthetician for an individual skin care consultation.
